3 Self Care Habits for Your Best Year Yet

Today, we’re talking about self-care: the friendly little buzzword that rings sarcastically in our minds when we swipe our credit cards or pour that second glass of rosé.

With the New Year right around the corner, self-care is top of mind.

To help you make the most of your self-care routine this year, I’m sharing the three self-care habits that helped me thrive in 2019!

1.Move everyday!

Only 33% of adults get the recommended amount of exercise in a week! Looking for a way to do one better than the competition? Start with daily movement.

Exercise helps you focus, improves your mood, slows aging, and boosts your immune system. Those are real results that improve the way we show up for our businesses.

In 2019, I took up running and went from not even being able to run a mile to running six miles at once! Of course, some days I walked or did yoga instead, but I made a commitment to moving my body every day, and you can too.

2.Eat a lot of plants.

Mom was right. You are what you eat. Plant based diets are proven to lower cholesterol, reduce your risk of all sorts of scary diseases (cancer and Alzheimer’s included), improve your mental functioning, and elevate your mood!

I’ve been on a vegan diet for a long time, but I wanted to shift to eating even more plants in 2019, so I contacted a local organic gardening company and had a backyard garden installed. Having fresh fruits and veggies on your plate makes all the difference for your health and wellbeing.

3.Conserve your mental energy.

You have a limited amount of time and energy, and you want to make sure you conserve it for only the best things.

I have a tendency to take on the world, and I have a feeling I’m not alone. In 2019, I stopped saying yes to every seminar, conference, and networking group and started to really think about what would feed my soul and grow my business. Now, when I become involved in people’s lives, it’s because I want to invest in them.

When I stopped saying yes to the commitments that didn’t speak to my heart, I had more time to give to the people who did, and I found that I was able to build connections and grow my business organically, without breaking my back.

Can these self-care resolutions work for you in the New Year?

Abso-freaking-lutely.

Self-care is most effective when it helps you show up as your best self ever. I invite you to choose what speaks to you, live with intention, put good things into your body, and take care of yourself this year.

Don’t forget to tell me how it goes! I’ll be cheering you on, all year long.
